Hair Towel Wrap =============== .. figure:: hair_towel_wraps.jpg :align: center .. only:: html .. contents:: This is an hair towel wrap inspired by STJARNBUSKE_ from IKEA, but bigger to accommodate longer hair. .. _STJARNBUSKE: https://www.ikea.com/nl/en/p/stjarnbuske-hair-towel-wrap-natural-50540181/ It is cut from existing towels, so there isn't a precise pattern as much as instructions; the pattern is also such that for best results you need two towels to make two wraps, or you need a single towel that is identical on the right and wrong side (or you're ok with the wrap having two different halves). Materials --------- Fabric ^^^^^^ * Two handtowels in the same size. Notions ^^^^^^^ * Sewing thread to match the fabric; * 12-16 cm tape. Instructions ------------ .. figure:: towel_hair_wrap.svg :align: center Cut the first towel working from the right side. On one short edge of the towel, measure a distance from one of the long edges that is a bit more than half the circumference of the head. On a 90 cm × 45 cm towel I've measured 35 cm. On the other short edge of the towel, measure the same distance from the other long edges. Cut on the diagonal line between those two points. Repeat the cut on the other towel, taking the same measurements, but working from the wrong side. Take the two symmetrical pieces from each towel to sew them together. .. figure:: 0101-cut_towel.jpg :align: center The first towel cut in two pieces, compared to the original wrap from IKEA. By machine ^^^^^^^^^^ .. figure:: 0201-pinned_seam.jpg :align: center pin the two towels right sides together, keeping the finished long edge of the towel as the front opening. .. figure:: 0202-sewn_loop.jpg :align: center Pin a loop of tape so that it will be under the seam, around the back of the head. .. figure:: 0203-sewn_seam.jpg :align: center Starting from the center front, sew along the short edge, rounding down the seam and continuing into the diagonal edge down to the bottom. .. figure:: 0204-finishing_allowances.jpg :align: center Finger press the allowances to one side and zig-zag them flat. By hand ^^^^^^^ Round the corner at the top of the head. .. figure:: 0301-hemming_allowances.jpg :align: center Press the allowance on each side twice towards the wrong side and hemstitch it; .. figure:: 0302-inserting_loop.jpg :align: center when reaching the rounded part, insert a loop of tape under the folded allowances .. figure:: 0303-fixing_loop.jpg :align: center then fold it up, and sew it in place so that it sticks outwards, .. figure:: 0304-continue_hemstitching.jpg :align: center then continue hemstitching the rest of the allowance. .. figure:: 0305-whipstitch_sides.jpg :align: center Put the two sides right sides together, whipstitch with a well waxed quadrupled thread. By hand, lighter fabric ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ .. figure:: 0401-rounding_corner.jpg :align: center Round the corner at the top of the head, so that you will have only one long seam to sew. .. figure:: 0402-pressing_allowances.jpg :align: center Press the allowance of one side towards the right side, the one of the other side towards the wrong side. .. figure:: 0403-hemstitching_allowances.jpg :align: center put the two sides together so that the raw edges are wrapped on each other, and hemstitch one fold from the wrong side .. figure:: 0404-appliquestitching_allowances.jpg :align: center Appliquestitch the other fold from the right side .. figure:: 0405-hemming.jpg :align: center If needed, hem any remaining raw edge.
